About the Zone

The terrain off the Silverado lift has the feel of the wild west—a bit adventurous and out of the way. It's full of steeps, chutes, bowls, trees, and all of it is for experts only. The terrain in the Broken Arrow part of this zone is long, has a consistently steep pitch, rolling terrain, and includes the famous and often groomed Tower 16.

Getting Here

To access the far side of the Silverado zone, head to the top of Big Blue Express, ski the gentle ridgeline past the top of Solitude chair, and you’ll soon see the top of the Silverado Chair. Pass the Chair and take the second of eight gates that control entry into this rugged playground. The Broken Arrow terrain sits in the middle of Squaw, its summit skirted on one side by the Aerial Tram and the other by the Funitel. From High Camp ski the Mountain Run along the Bailey's Beach chair. At the bottom of Bailey's Beach, take a sharp left, and take Packers run to the bottom of the Broken Arrow lift. Alternatively, after your sharp left you can follow the run towards the Land Bridge, where you'll come to a short 100 yard climb that takes you to the coveted Tower 16 area. While this climb isn't difficult, it is the reason Broken Arrow remains uncrowded.

Local Tips For Silverado

THE premiere run

"Tower 16 is THE premiere run off Broken Arrow and maybe on the mountain some locals would say. It should probably be called ‘Tower 7’ nowadays, because that is the nearest lift tower which supports the Funitel. This run was originally named after the old gondola Tower #16, which was removed in 1998 when the Funitel was installed. This run faces south/southeast, so it sees a lot of sun, which makes for great corn and spring-snow conditions. After fresh snow falls, the sun often shines, and temperatures rise, so hit this run early before the snow gets heavy."
