Suspended Operations

After careful thought and deliberation of our duty in the face of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, and in what we believe is in the best interest of our guests, employees and local communities, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows suspended operations starting the morning of Sunday, March 15, until further notice. All lift operations, aerial tram, retail and rental services are closed.

The California State Public Health Officer and Director of the California Department of Public Health is ordering all individuals living in the State of California to stay home or at their place of residence, except as needed to maintain continuity of operation of the federal critical infrastructure sectors. In accordance with this order, the State Public Health Officer has designated only “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers” to help state, local, tribal, and industry partners as they work to protect communities while ensuring continuity of functions critical to public health and safety, as well as economic and national security.

We are working directly with our guests in canceling their visits and will provide refunds to those who have hotel reservations made through and other Squaw Alpine product purchases during this closure period. We anticipate heavy call volumes and appreciate guests’ patience as we work hard to respond to all inquiries.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will you be closed for?

The resort will be closed for lift operations and aerial tram rides until further notice, and we will monitor any changes in government and health guidelines, as well as the situation in our community, to determine if reopening is feasible.

Can I skin up and ski or ride the mountain while it is closed?

No uphill travel is allowed at either mountain as our crews continue to work on the slopes to maintain safety, and equipment and environmental hazards exist.

Please make informed decisions if you are considering going into the backcountry. Please use resources such as the Sierra Avalanche Center and our Deep Snow Safety Tips to weigh your options and make the safest choice.

What stores and restaurants in the Village at Squaw Valley are currently open?

Here is a list of establishments that are currently open.  Please check back as we continue to update this list.

All other retail shops and restaurant facilities that are owned and operated by Squaw Alpine are currently closed. The majority of the shops, restaurants, and bars in our Village are independently-owned and will decide what course of action is best for them. Check our Hours of Operation for a list of operating hours, but please note that while we will attempt to maintain an up-to-date database, independent business owners can change their hours at their discretion.

When do you plan to reopen for summer operations?

Squaw Alpine will be ready to reopen once state and local health officials say that it is allowable, and resort management deems it is appropriate for our community. As of this time, we have no scheduled date to begin summer operations. This includes the Aerial Tram and High Camp operations. This page will be updated as any summer operations are scheduled.

What is the status of summer events?

Summer events are TBD. The event calendar is up to date with information on the status of all events.

Can I make reservations for a summer visit?

The Village at Squaw Valley is now accepting lodging reservations beginning June 1. We have updated our cancellation policy to account for the uncertain times we are in; you can find those policies here

I had a trip to Squaw Alpine planned, can I get a refund?

Due to suspended operations, we have updated our cancellation policy. We will be offering refunds or credits for tickets, lessons, and lodging reserved through For lodging reservations made through a 3rd party site such as AirBnB, Expedia,, etc., please contact them directly for the refund.  If you have a question regarding the cancellation, please reach out via email to or call (800) 403-0206.  We appreciate your patience as we work hard to respond to all inquiries. For questions regarding the Ikon Pass, please contact

I purchased a Tahoe Super 4 Pack and didn't use all my days.  What can you do for me?

We sincerely thank you for being a loyal customer and are offering all 2019/20 Tahoe Super 4 pack holders the ability to roll over unused days to next season.  In addition, we will be offering you two (2) 50% off lift ticket or Aerial Tram discounts valid for use next season. Here's how it works:

  • Hold on to your current Tahoe Super 4 pass; this same card will work for next season.
  • When we open next season head straight to the lift with your Tahoe Super 4 and enjoy your day on the mountain.
  • Watch your inbox this fall for the details on using your two (2) 50% off lift ticket or Aerial Tram discounts.
  • The lift ticket or tram discounts will be available for use any day next winter.
  • As always you'll be able to use your Tahoe Super 4 any day of the season. There are no blackout dates.  If we are able to reopen for skiing and riding for the 19/20 season, your Tahoe Super 4 days will of course still be valid.
I purchased a Spring Ticket Trio and didn't use all my days.  What can you do for me?

We are offering all 2019/20 Spring Ticket Trio holders the ability to roll over unused days to next season.  Here's how it works:

  • Hold onto the tickets from your 2019-20 Spring Ticket Trio.
  • If you have given the tickets away, please let the people you gave them to know to hold onto them for use next season.
  • Please note that only the person who purchased the Spring Ticket Trio pack may request the replacement of a missing ticket(s).
  • There's no need to stop by the ticket office! When we open next season, just head straight to the lift with your unused Spring Trio lift ticket and enjoy your day on the mountain.
  • Your unused 2019-20 Spring Ticket Trio lift tickets will be valid every day of the 2020-21 season. There are no blackout dates.
What are you doing to provide your guests peace of mind for purchasing 2020/21 products?

We understand that in these uncertain times it can be difficult to make plans which is why we are offering the Worry-Free Guarantee. Pre-purchase any of our 2020-21 winter products (does not include Ikon or Mountain Collective) and you will lock in our low early-season rates and have until November 3, 2020 to obtain a FULL REFUND, no questions asked. Is the Mountaineer ride-share service still operating?

Mountaineer has ended its operations for the season effective Monday, March 16. We look forward to welcoming back this essential free service for the 2020-21 season, and we thank our guests who utilized Mountaineer this season.

What about your employees, how are you assisting them in this difficult time?

Squaw Alpine could not run without the hard work and dedication of our employees. Currently, a limited number of full-time, year-round employees continue to work from home, in keeping with county and state guidelines. Upon closure, with the well-being of our employees in mind, we provided all seasonal employees a week’s worth of severance pay, based on their normal schedules, to provide them assistance in this difficult time. As of April 3, we had to take the difficult steps to “zero out” about half of the remaining full-time, year-round employees. This means they will continue to receive health benefits and maintain their standing in the company, and once operations resume we will move to immediately bring these employees back on board.

Are there any confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the area?

Squaw Alpine is located in Placer County, which has reported confirmed cases of COVID-19. This is a rapidly developing situation, which is why we are in frequent contact with health officials in both Placer and Nevada counties, to stay informed of any new developments, especially those that could affect our community.
