 The World’s Top Athletes to Compete at Reebok Spartan Race World Championship at Squaw Valley

Top obstacle racing athletes return to Squaw Valley for third year in a row

[Olympic Valley, Calif.] September 27, 2017 – Squaw Valley will host the 2017 Reebok Spartan Race World Championship, where the best athletes in the obstacle racing world will compete for the title of Spartan Race World Champion. The event will take place this weekend, September 30-October 1, and feature five distances for racers of all ages to choose from over two days of racing. Visitors are invited to cheer on friends and family, or watch the incredible athletes compete in their pursuit of glory. The Reebok Spartan Race World Championship will host six races including the Spartan Beast featuring 38 obstacles over 16 miles; Spartan Ultra Beast featuring 60+ obstacles over 26+ miles; and Spartan Kids races over ½ mile, one mile and two miles. Athletes will start at an elevation of 6,224 feet and climb upwards to an elevation of over 9,000 feet. This year’s event will feature Spartan’s first ever World Team Championships, where top racers from around the world will form country-specific, co-ed teams of three to go head-to-head on a Spartan “Super” course, battling for the title of World Team Champion.
 
Obstacles, testing strength and endurance, at this year’s race include the Olympus, Ape Hanger and Ring the Bell. A special Funitel Access Ticket will be available Friday through Sunday for visitors to gain access to the upper mountain course. To register for a race or purchase a Spectator Package, click here. Schedule of Events
On Saturday, September 30 the Men’s and Women’s Spartan Beast heats begin at 7:30 a.m. with the last heat starting at 2:00 p.m. There will also be a Spartan Kids Two-Mile Race with start times between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., a Spartan Kids One-Mile Race with start times between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and a Spartan Kids ½ Mile Race with start times from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
 
On Sunday, October 1 the Men’s and Women’s Spartan Beast heats begin at 8:00 a.m. with the last heat starting at 12:30 p.m. The Men’s and Women’s Ultra Beast race heats begin at 6:00 a.m. with the last heat at 6:45 a.m. The Spartan Kids Two-Mile Race begins at 1:00 p.m., the Kids One-Mile Race has start times from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and the Spartan Kids ½ Mile Race has start times from 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
 
Squaw Valley Funitel Access
Funitel Access Tickets are available Friday, September 29 through Sunday, October 1. Tickets can be purchased on-site at the Main Ticket Office located in the Funitel Plaza. The Funitel will transport passengers from the Village to Gold Coast at the top of the mountain where racers can enjoy easy access to more than 10 obstacles at the top of the mountain and spectacular panoramic views. Funitel operations for the Reebok Spartan Race World Championship will run at the following times.

  • Friday, September 29: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 30: 7 a.m.-7p.m.
  • Sunday, October 1: 7 a.m.-7p.m.
