Today is opening day for the 2019-20 ski season! Right now the mountain is starting with one lift and trail and both Squaw and Alpine due to limited snowmaking conditions and dry weather so far this fall. We may see colder air and slightly more active weather the 2nd half of the month.
We are expecting partly sunny skies and a dry pattern through Monday. Highs in the 50s on the mountain and overnight lows in the 30s.
Weak System Possible Next Week with Colder Air:
Next Tuesday a trough digs into the West bringing us clouds, some gusty winds, and colder air. Highs should drop into the 40s on the mountain with overnight lows dropping into the 20s. That could last through the end of the week bringing much better snowmaking conditions.
There is the possibility of a few light showers as the cold front moves through. We could see an area of low pressure split off and move down the CA coast into southern CA. That could bring heavier precipitation to southern CA. Some forecast models show some of that precipitation being drawn as far north as Squaw, but much lighter amounts.
We will keep an eye on this system for the middle of next week to see if we could see any light snow from it on the mountain.
It looks like we could see high pressure build back in the weekend of the 23rd bringing back a dry and slightly milder pattern.
The week of the 25th there continues to be some signs that at least a couple of weak systems could move through the area. We will keep an eye on that. That pattern would also bring back some colder air for snowmaking.
