Light Snow Possible Monday Night, Heavier Snow Moves in Tuesday Night

Category: Weather
Snowfall Report:

A band of heavier snow lingered over the mountain Saturday evening.  That brought the total for Saturday up to 6 inches on the upper mountain and 3 inches at the base.  The 2-day storm total ended up at 10 inches on the upper mountain, a few inches more than we were expecting!

Sunday-Monday:

We will see a break in the storms Sunday with sunny skies and highs in the 40's.  Ridgetop winds could start to pick up a little later in the day ahead of the next storm.

The recent trend on the forecast models is showing the initial wave for Monday stalling just to the NW of Tahoe.  That could mean we stay mostly dry Monday with just clouds and high winds.  Upper mountain winds are expected to increase to 60+ mph through the day, so some upper mountain lift closures look likely.  Highs in the 30's on the upper mountains and 40's at the base.

Monday Night - Thursday Storm:

The snow should push into Tahoe Monday night with light snow possible into Tuesday.  We could see 3-5 inches on the mountain Monday night, and 1-2 inches Tuesday.  We could see 1-3 inches at the base with snow levels near to just above the base Tuesday.  Upper mountain winds are expected to continue to be strong Tuesday possibly affecting upper mountain lifts.

Heavier snow is expected to push in later Tuesday night into Wednesday night.  Snow levels are expected to fall well below the base later Tuesday night through Wednesday night with the snow on the mountain becoming drier and more powdery.  High winds are expected to continue Wednesday.  Highs in the 30's.

We could see an additional 4-7 inches of snow on the mountain Tuesday night, 6-10 inches Wednesday, and 6-9 inches Wednesday night.  We could see 12-18 inches at the base through Wednesday night.  We could see a final 1-3 inches Thursday from scattered snow showers before the storm clears out Thursday night.  Winds are expected to drop off on Thursday with highs in the 20's on the upper mountain and 30's at the base.

Next Weekend:

It looks like we will see a break in the storms Friday through the weekend of the 30th, just in time for Winter Wondergrass.  We should see sun with highs in the 30's on the upper mountain and 40's at the base with lighter winds.  The next storm could arrive by Sunday night so we will watch that.

Long-Range:

The active pattern could return later the week of the 1st into the weekend of the 6th with a few storms possibly moving through CA.
