[Olympic Valley, Calif.] March 7, 2017 – Following a successful holiday pilot program for the app-based shuttle service provider Chariot, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is bringing Chariot service back to the resort this week for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup.

Chariot, which allows people to book rides on fixed routes or on-demand via its mobile app, will provide free service to residents and guests in the Squaw Valley neighborhoods between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from March 9 through March 11, reducing the number of cars on area roads.

Over the holidays, Chariot’s 14-passenger shuttle buses provided more than 500 rides between local neighborhoods and the Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows base areas, with significant ridership among families with young children in particular. This week’s Chariot program provides an opportunity for Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows to continue testing Chariot’s viability as a long-term “micro mass transit” solution for near-resort travel.

“Enhancing public transit in our region is extremely important to us here at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows,” said president and CEO of Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows. “This partnership with Chariot provides an opportunity for us to improve and modernize the way people are getting around as we host the Audi FIS Ski World Cup. We learned a lot from our initial pilot with Chariot and are applying these learnings to bring an improved experience to residents and guests. As we continue to work towards long-term transit solutions, we are excited about the opportunity to work with Chariot and to see how technology can help us update our local transportation infrastructure.”

In Squaw Valley, four shuttles will service the fixed route including multiple stops on Squaw Valley Road, Sandy Way, Lanny Lane, Tiger Tail Road and Winding Creek Road, with drop off/pick up at the Member’s Locker Room, located on Village South Road. Chariot will also accommodate passengers without reservations at the designated stops.

Chariot service will complement other transportation enhancements for the World Cup, like premium 48-passenger bus service to the resort from the Truckee Tahoe Airport and the Tahoe City Transit Center. As always, visitors to Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows are encouraged to carpool to the resort with four or more people to qualify for free, close-in Protect Our Winters (POW) Parking. POW Parking is available at both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows on a first-come, first-served basis. Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows has created a dedicated World Cup Transportation web page to help visitors access the most up-to-date information on getting to and from the resort during the World Cup.
