Cold Weekend with Some Snow:
A cold front moves through Saturday afternoon bringing much colder air, rain/snow, and gusty winds. We should see precipitation arrive around midday to early afternoon, with the heaviest rain/snow possible early afternoon. Then winding down into Saturday evening.
Snow levels start at the summit, falling to near the base through the afternoon. Ridge winds gusting up to 60 mph. Highs only in the 40's at base and 30's on the mountain, with temperatures falling through the afternoon. Saturday night lingering snow showers possible early and then some clearing. 1-3 inches of snow possible above 7,000 feet, with up to a coating possible down at the base.
Sunday we could see sun and clouds with some scattered snow showers. Highs in the 40's at the base and 30's on the mountain. Sunday night we could see another round of accumulating snow as a 2nd front moves through. Another 1-3 inches of snow is possible all the way to the base.
*For the Spartan race at Squaw, I would expect cold and breezy conditions as well as muddy conditions for the weekend. Maybe a coating of snow to contend with Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
We start to clear out on Monday but stay cold with highs in the 30's on the mountain & 40's at the base. We start to warm up through the week next week, but still below-average temperatures with highs only in the 50's.
The long-range forecast models suggest that we could go into a warmer pattern the first weekend of October into the following week.
