Fly Fishing

Be sure to get a valid license before you try your hand at fishing! The closest spot to get a license by Squaw is Swiggards Hardware in Tahoe City. Some top fishing spots in our area include the Truckee River and Pyramid Lake.

Some of the region's best hikes are right here at Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows. At Alpine, try the intense but rewarding Five Lakes Trail. At Squaw, hike the three fairly strenuous miles to High Camp on the Shirley Canyon Trail and take the tram down for free! 

For a short jaunt with a beautiful lake view, try Eagle Rock on the West Shore, and stop at the West Shore Market for refreshments afterwards. 

Biking to Lake Tahoe

Come summertime, Tahoe becomes an epicenter for cyclists of all kinds.  The area is home to endless miles of singletrack for mountain bikers, steep climbs and mellow roadways perfect for road cyclists, and paved, multi-use paths along the Truckee River and the shores of Lake Tahoe for families who love bikes. Make Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows your summer home base and you’ll be in the center of the action and at a great place to start a variety of rides.

Explore the pristine blue waters of Lake Tahoe on a kayak or paddleboard. This is a great way to see the lake from a different perspective and squeeze in some exercise. Tahoe City Kayak is the closest option.

Enjoy a round of golf surrounded by exquisite views of Squaw Valley when you play at the Resort At Squaw Creek.  

Looking to play at other locations around the lake? Just ten minutes away, you can tee of at the Tahoe City Golf Course, which offers great family-friendly options, or at the beautiful Old Brockway Golf Course in King's Beach that offers a lake view. 


In Truckee, you can access the free Truckee Skate Park that is open to all ages. They're even planning an expansion

Incline Village on the Nevada side of the lake also has a free, all-ages skatepark. For all your skateboarding needs, you can visit Lady Luck Skate Shop in King's Beach.

If you're looking for a coffee fix, look no further than Coffeebar, a local coffeeshop in the Village at Squaw Valley. Never leave Squaw Valley without a chocolate chip cookie from Wildflour.

Dining & Drinks in the Tahoe Basin

In Truckee, grab a bite at Old Town Tap in the heart of the Historic Downtown or a beer around the corner at the popular community spot Alibi Ale Works. Get your caffeine fix at Coffeebar's Truckee location, or a filling breakfast at Donner Lake Kitchen.

In Tahoe City, visit Pioneer Cocktail Club for delicious food and trendy drinks. For something quicker, visit Sips. Hidden in a liquor store, this popular little spot also serves Poke while playing classic ski movies. 

For something higher-end, try Wolfdale's in Tahoe City or Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay.

To catch live music year-round, head to Crystal Bay Casino for big-name acts or Commons Beach in Tahoe City for summer concerts.

Reno is one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the country. Teeming with artists, musicians, & a dynamic food scene, there are plenty of places worth visiting.

Head towards the East Shore of the lake for some epic views from a snowmobile! Children 5+ are eligible to ride, making this a great option for the family who loves all things extreme. Starting from the top of Brockway Summit with Lake Tahoe Snowmobiling is one of the best options.

Head north on Highway 89 towards Truckee to visit the local rink. With relatively cheap season passes and potential for a full-size rink on the way, this spot is a conveniently located, fun stop for all!
