MLK Weekend Weather
The weather is beautiful this weekend with sun and highs near 50 degrees. The winds are lighter today into Sunday.
By Monday the winds will start to pickup ahead of our first storm approaching that will start a pattern change to colder and stormier.
Changes Starting Tuesday
Tuesday the first storm moves in bringing snowfall and falling snow levels. This storm is not overly impressive but could bring some snow to the upper mountain.
Snow levels look to start high late Monday night around 8500 feet, and then falling to 8,000 feet by Tuesday morning. They should continue to fall through the day to 7,000 feet and then to the base by evening.
The storm winds down by evening so not expecting much snow to the base. Above 7,000 feet we could see a coating up to an inch or two of snow.
Wednesday we could see some sun and rebound quickly back to highs in the 40's. That won't last long as the next storm approaches Wednesday night.
Thursday we have a stronger and colder storm moving in. Snow levels could start up around 8,000 feet Thursday morning but quickly fall to the base by Thursday evening.
That means Thursday night we could see snow accumulating on the entire mountain into Friday morning. Friday things should wind down with only scattered snow showers.
With this storm the initial guestimate is that we could see 6-10 inches at the base, 10-15 inches above 7,000 feet, and 15-20 inches above 8,000 feet.
Next weekend should be much colder with highs only in the 20's and 30's with a possible break in the storms.
Latest model runs show the next storm moving in as early as next Sunday but maybe not until Monday the 22nd.
Looking at the pattern, it looks like the storm door could remain open through the end of the month.
