The Tahoe Junior Freeride Series originated in 2007 as a friendly big mountain competition between Squaw Valley and Sugar Bowl ski teams. It has grown into a regional series that boasts over 120 competitors from Alpine Meadows, Sugar Bowl, Squaw Valley, Kirkwood, Auburn Ski Club, Mt. Rose and Yosemite Winter Club. This event is a series of three competitions. Each competition has a two day format with every competitor skiing/riding one run each day.
The Tahoe Junior Freeride Series has four categories:
- Girls 11-14
- Girls 15-18
- Boys 11-14
- Boys 15-18
In 2013 the series added two snowboarding categories:
- Boys 11-18
- Girls 11-18
Competitors can earn points from Tahoe Junior Freeride Series comps toward national IFSA ranking
